Why we started
Salah Chair Australia began at home, with our mother.
She came from overseas to spend time with us in Australia. During her visit she became unwell
and was admitted to hospital. When she came home to rest, we noticed something that stayed
with us: she could no longer bend and prostrate the way she always had. Salah had been the
steady centre of her day for as long as we could remember, and now every rakah was a struggle.
We started looking for something that could help. We found a prayer chair made specifically for
salah, with a padded support in front so she could perform sujood while seated. The first time
she prayed on it, she prayed with ease and without pain. Seeing the comfort and peace it gave
her is something we will never forget.
It made us think about how many others are in the same position: parents and grandparents,
people recovering from surgery or illness, anyone whose knees or back make prayer difficult. Many of them quietly make do with a dining chair or a plastic chair at the end of the row. That is why we started Salah Chair Australia: to make it easy for families across Australia to get a chair made for prayer, delivered from Melbourne, so their loved ones can keep praying with
comfort and dignity.
